3rd Reflection Paper

Counseling children, vulnerable adults, families and groups has been one of the most sensitive subjects that we have discussed in class, in my opinion. The legal and ethical views in counseling create discrepancies when servicing minor and vulnerable adults. This is something that is taken very seriously in counseling and I’m sure that we all will be faced with challenging and unique situations in training and if we decide to go into private practice. I understand that minors may not want their parents to know what is discussed in counseling sessions but information should be shared with the parent if privacy rights of minors legally belong to the parent or guardian. When family members contribute to the problems that are being addressed in counseling sessions I feel that all parties should be present for effective counseling can occur. Although all family members showing up is not guaranteed, I do not agree that it should be accepted and counselors should have the right to choose if services should be rendered based on if it would benefit the majority.
When it comes to both family and group counseling, it scares me that although as a counselor I guarantee confidentiality, that there may be a possibility that I can still have accusations bought against you if group members feel the need to place blame on me if they are ashamed because they breeched confidentiality. Ass we discussed in class, we need to have good malpractice insurance and a
