Ethics can be defined as ‘Human moral conduct according to principles of what is good or right to do’. In Christianity there are certain ethical teachings, mainly The Ten Commandments, Beatitudes, and Jesus’ commandments of love. The Ten Commandments are derived from the Old Testament which defines what people must do in order to serve God faithfully and gives direction on how to live a life according to the covenant and in essence to be a good Christian person. In the New Testament the Beatitudes and Jesus’ commandments of love are found. With love being the main concept of these teachings, they and the Ten Commandments can be seen as alike as they

In order to live a holy life it is necessary to aspire to act out of the beatitudes in as much of out daily lives as possible. For Instance the fifth beatitude tells us to help others when they are in need, even if this means we have to put ourselves out, and to forgive other people and not to hold grudges and act out of love for one another.

The central theme of all of Jesus’ preaching was love. When Jesus was asked, "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?" he replied, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind' - this is the great and foremost commandment, and there is a second like it, 'You shall love your neighbour as yourself'. The whole Law and Prophets hang on these two commands." (Mtt 22:37-40, Mrk 12:28-34). This is known as Jesus Commandant of love. Love is at the heart of all Christian teachings and living. By loving God and loving others we make God’s kingdom present in the world today.

Together the Ten Commandments, Beatitudes and Commandments of love direct Christians to love God and love one another, as love is the central theme in Christian values. This inturn enables the kingdom of God to be present on earth as to love each other is what true Christianity is. The 10 Commandments are a summary of Christian ethics.
