Mid-Term: EIS May Harm Engines: Industry Report
The use of Ethanol as an alternative oil source has spurred much controversy with the automobile and petroleum industries. In recent years, oil consumption has declined due to the uprising method of combining ethanol and gasoline to create what is called a “blend”. These reason that these blends are being questioned is because they supposedly have a correlation with engine malfunction. The Coordinating Research Council, a non-profit supported by the automobile and petroleum industries has performed several tests using blends to help support the belief that ethanol is detrimental to engine functions. Although the council’s data correlates with the negative effects of ethanol on engines, more research is necessary to confirm these outcomes. As blends are becoming more popular in the United States, the safety of ethanol continues to be questioned.
