There’s no debating that everyone sleeps and naps; however, only a few individuals take the time to understand the importance of sleep. In 1998, an English teacher known as Anton Anderson took sleeping and napping to the next level. With intentions to help the waves of weary teens, he developed a club that permits students to nap for 20 minutes in school! One may wonder why napping is worth wasting 20 minutes of learning. Various studies have shown that sleeping and napping are important because they can determine an individual's mental alertness, health status, mood, level of energy, and motivation to accomplish tasks. When it comes to sleeping and napping, the amount of time taken to recharge can determine the lifespan of an individual. Without napping, Albert Einstein may have died from heart disease before determining the theory of relativity. Additionally, a researcher at the Allegheny College found that napping was a significant factor in lowering blood pressure after a mental stress. Paragraph 19 of Source 2 states, “... people in the study who took a daily 45-minute nap on average had lower blood pressure after taking a mental stress test than those who didn’t have a nap.” This illustrates that by simply taking a few minutes to recharge, an individual can enjoy positive health benefits without lifting a finger.
