What all goes into writing a song? How did the artist come up with that idea? What was going through their head? Writing a song can be a long process. For some artist it can take up to three months to write a song, for others they can write a song in five minutes or less. It all depends on who the artist is and if they are inspired to write or not. A song is like a three minute story. There’s a beginning, a middle, and of course an end. The main purpose of a song is to tell that story, whether it is about love, heartbreak, bad times, good times, it is a story that is being told. Music in general touches everyone, but too many there will always be that one song that they can really connect with. That “story” is their story. The first step in writing a song is simple, a songwriter needs to know what they want to write about. For most it is easiest to write about something they have experienced. A famous singer/songwriter is Taylor Swift. A song usually has two verses, some may have more. The verse is the beginning of the “story”. The verse is where the majority of the song is being told. A verse is the longest part of any song because it is the part that explain or tells the most. You are setting the theme to the song in your verse. Then you add a chorus and a bridge to completely tell your story. The most important part to any song is the chorus. The chorus is the part of the song that is repeated after each verse. The chorus is the part of the song that gets stuck in most people’s head, it is the catchy part. The chorus can make or break a song. The verse and bridge of a song can be incredible but if the chorus is weak then it will throw the whole song off. The main purpose of a chorus is to tie the first and second verse together, in a sense it is the middle part of the “story”. A chorus does not need to rhyme but most do because most artists want their songs to get stuck in your

although there is no one way to write well, I believe my essays have become more articulate, interesting, and easier to understand. Not only have I improved my papers in WRIT 102, but my writing skills have helped me prepare speeches for my Speech 102 class. There are three ways in which I was able to improve in, including proofreading, peer review, and learning from my past grammar mistakes. My song comparison essay was my most refined essay, and probably my best one because I made my best grade…
The writing of the long song “How can I be proud of my Jamaican roots, when my ancestors had been slaves”? This question asked by a woman with Jamaican roots followed British novelist Andrea Levy for a long time. She wondered how anyone could be ashamed of his or her legacy and thus the foundation of her book, The Long Song, was laid. However, writing the book was a more difficult task than presumed. Levy considered many things at the preliminary stage of the book as she knew that she didn’t want…
Writing Benefits I’ve read several books; the first one when I was 10 years old, but I never wrote a summary, synthesis, or a review about them. According to Edmund Burke, reading without writing is the same as eating without digesting. I have a lot to digest! I like the thought that writing is helpful to enhance perception, concept, and relationship with others. Although I received pretty good grades in my school essays, reflecting on my writing was never an easy task for me. Because Portuguese…
Stanford’s bimonthly journal. Her writing focuses on the American issues of society, culture and philosophy. One of her essays named “Eminem is Right,” focuses on the popularity of rock/rap music and the social implications it has on the American society. In the essay, “Eminem Is Right” (Blair reader, pp 223-229), author Mary Eberstadt explores why today’s music, violent and disgusting, resonates with so many American children today. In the beginning of her essay, Eberstadt explores the question…
intended to convey something powerful. Conversely, it would also be unnatural to attempt to put words to classical and recognized instrumental compositions. It is often said that songs with no lyrics have no pull; nothing to draw in the listener. This opinion can be argued by the fact that there is software able to identify a song from only a few moments of voiceless segments, and several web sites generating hundreds of thousands of views per day that focus on misheard, or commonly misunderstood lyrics…

A Subaltern’s Love Song March 4, 2013 A Subaltern’s Love Song I have selected to write my paper on John Betjeman’s poem “A Subaltern’s Love Song.” This poem is a witty approach at explaining passionate feelings from the poet’s point of view, who is also the speaker.
