Visual media is a part of just about everyone’s everyday life. Televisions, computers, and smartphones with access to different forms of visual media are used on a regular basis. These forms of visual media entertainment media has helped to shape American culture and its values.
One form of visual entertainment media that shaped American culture and its values is cable television. In the beginning the three main broadcast networks, CBS, NBC, and ABC accounted for nearly all prime-time television viewing but with the introduction of cable television, a wide variety of channels became available to consumers. Now there are several different cable companies from which customer are able to choose from. Sitting around and watching television has become the main form or entertainment for most families. Families use to get together to play board games or listen to the radio and new they use getting together to watch their favorite show every week as a way to bond. Another form of visual entertainment media that has shaped American culture is the internet. I think this form has had the biggest impact. Just about everyone has used the internet at some point in time. Most people use it on a regular basis. There are video web sites such as, Hulu and Netflix, on which customers are able to view movies or their favorite television show whenever they want. These sites are accessible through the computers, smartphones, and even video gaming systems. So now consumers are able to watch their favorite programming from virtually anywhere at any time.
I do not think that the social influences of visual entertainment media are mostly positive or negative. There are television shows and movies that contain sexually themed and violent content but there are also many shows and movies that are family
