Summary
* The reader dictates perspective * Narrator himself doesn’t necessarily understand what’s going on * Narrated by Quentin * Nancy is an African American washerwomen that works for this family and she is afraid that her husband, Jesus, is coming to kill her because she is impregnated by another man * She replaced Dilsey * The mother is jealous and insecure that the husband is helping her * The readers don’t really know the full story because its from a fourteen year old point of view * Nancy is crippled by fear and cant physically do anything anymore The story ends as the father walks the children back—not the least bit affected by Nancy's situation, the kids still teasing each other and the father scolding them * Significance * The reader decides what happens your perspective dictates the meaning * No transitions… series of fragmented memories… you can just jump to a memory * Everyone sees reality through their own perspective * The search for your meaning of life is rewarding
