The first topic on college dropouts basically discusses that without a degree what will you be in life. After dropping out of college what you thought you wanted to do wont work out for a long term plan. For more and more young people today, college is being thought of as more of an option, rather than a necessity, sometimes its for a good reason. The character in this particular story dropped out or as he called it taking time off which most of the time turns out to be permanent. A lot of people think college is hard and then think about quitting and doing something else because they don’t think they can cut it. This is NOT a good reason to drop out. In many ways college life is representative of reality and all you’ll learn from leaving is that you quit when things got tough. I believe If you are struggling through college and it’s making you a stressful mess, you’re doing something wrong. Think of it as a challenge, a system to break down to figure out and master it. There are millions that came before you and were able to get that degree, relax and understand how much of challenge that was yet many have manage to accomplish it. These experiences will shape you into an interesting person and you’ll meet people that can give you an outlet for what you actually want to do with your life. Next, the second topic also explains why its good for you to go to college. In the article the author discusses how he wished he would have went because he didn’t realize after loosing his job how hard it would be to survive without a degree yet searching for a new job. When you don’t have a degree its twice as hard to get a good job than for someone who has one. The economy isn’t what it use to be, for example, his experience at the Kaiser plant and getting laid off from work. Then having nothing to fall back on. That's why its always good to have education on your side. Also, If you go to college, you'll gain information and skills that you'll use for the rest of your life. That's reason enough to pursue an education beyond high school, but here are more practical considerations. A college education can help increase your understanding of the community and the world as you explore interests, discover new areas of knowledge, and
