The story that the narrator told about the young boy is the typical experience that a child would experience growing up. I personally felt as if that really didn’t have anything to do with a boy becoming a man. I feel that it had more to do with being bullied and learning to stand up for yourself. I say that because as a young girl growing up myself, I’ve witnessed both young boys and girls go through the same situations. The codes that he spoke on such as not snitching, not showing fear, not telling people your business etc. There is some times a double standard but realistically, in this time and age, there’s really not.

For example, there were these girls that went to school with me and we called the Bey Bey Sisters, there were three of them. We called them that because they obxious, disrespectful, and just no home training at all. They would always target this one girl, constantly harassing her and making her the butt of their jokes in front of other classmates. I felt that they targeted her because she was kind of weird too. She was into her school work, very quiet, very timid but at the same time was sweet and friendly. She was different. Anyway, there was a situation where the Bey Bey Sisters did something, involved the other girl and got in trouble. The one girl ended up being in a situation where if she didn’t tell the truth she would’ve gotten in serious trouble. Therefore she did the right thing and told the truth. After their 5 day suspension, for days they tortured and humiliated her twice as hard. Even to the point of where we were jumping her and chasing her home a few times. I started feeling really bad for her. She was real petite while these over girls were all heavy in the butt. So
