Course Description
This course emphasizes the development of literacy, communication, and critical and creative thinking skills necessary for success in academic and daily life. Students will analyze challenging literary texts from various periods, countries, and cultures, as well as a range of informational and graphic texts, and create oral, written, and media texts in a variety of forms. An important focus will be on using language with precision and clarity and incorporating stylistic devices appropriately and effectively. The course is intended to prepare students for the compulsory Grade 12 university or college preparation course.
Prerequisite: English, Grade 10, Academic
Assessment and Evaluations
To promote student success, ongoing formative assessment and feedback will be given to students. As required by the Ministry of Education, students will be assessed in the four areas of the achievement chart (Knowledge, Thinking, Communication, Application).

The chart below provides the strands under each assignment will be evaluated. All evaluations are expected on the due date, however, they will be also accepted up and until the ultimate due date. Submission after the ultimate due date may result in a mark of zero or a 10% deduction.
The final grade will be determined as follows (in accordance with Ministry of Education standards):
