Emergency Response Truck
The purpose for the truck is to lower response times, and increase the chances of life saving with BLS care. There is a need such vehicle in Nelson County due to the wide spread area in which we cover and the few ambulances that are provided throughout or protection district. The truck would be equipped with a slide out tray, BLS kit, AED, SCBA, set or irons, as well as a water can. With this equipment we can lower response time and increase lifesaving, as well as cutting down on the amount of truck that we get on the road for and “not so serious runs.”
The ERT would be rotated throughout the members of the department who are EMT certified and wish to participate in the program. It would basically be the same concept as the command truck in rotation now. Since we would be making run for EMS, they could be responsible for keeping our BLS equipment stocked, letting us participate in their trainings.
There are many times in which an extra set of hands are nice to have on a medical call, for instance a full arrest, severe trauma just to name a couple. So right now if all the ambulances are out on transfers and other runs, or there is one left but it’s in New Haven and there is a full arrest on Rogan St? EMS has to call for mutual aid to respond or it just takes forever to get there. With this truck we can start BLS care 10-15 minutes faster depending on where the ambulance is coming from.
