• THE EMERGENCY
CONTRACEPTIVE PILL
• The emergency contraceptive pill is a contraceptive
method which is used to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex.

• It does not affect ovulation, but it can prevent sperm
from fertilising an egg. It may also prevent implantation of a fertilised egg. Emergency contraceptive pills will not cause an abortion.
EXPLAIN HOW THIS METHOD WORKS AS A CONTRACEPTIVE
•The emergency contraceptive pill, if taken before ovulation, inhibits or delays an egg being released from the ovary.

• The emergency contraceptive pill does not interfere with an established pregnancy, they just stop the sperm and egg from uniting.

•In some cases, the emergency contraceptive pill is also able to prevent a fertilised egg from attaching to the uterus.

•This method, however, only works within 5 days of having unprotected sex.
