Take Out an Amendment

Directions: Choose ONE of the Bill Of Rights Amendments that you could live without. Make a claim to this argument and provide evidence as to why this particular right could be removed.
In the Bill of Rights the Amendment that I could live without would be the third Amendment. The United States has not had a war on its mainland since the War of 1812 when the United States was attacked by the British because the British wanted to reclaim their lost colonies from the Revolutionary War. America’s Founding Fathers had the Third Amendment included into the Bill of Rights because the British Parliament imposed the Quartering Act of 1765, where colonists were forced to supply British soldiers with food, shelter and drinks. Colonists were very upset with the idea of quartering soldiers in their homes during peacetime and without their consent. To prevent this from happening in the new country of the United States the Founding Fathers added the third Amendment that stated “No soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner prescribed by law.” The United States has been in numerous wars and the majority of them never had a single battle on U.S. soil. As a whole the United States has had only four wars on its territory out of twelve major conflicts. The United States has been recognized as a world super power and is feared or respected by almost every country.
