List at least two effects that organized religion has had on society and provide examples from past or present world events that illustrate your examples

One effect that organized religion has had on society would be fear. I say this because there are many people who fear a jealous God. Many are taught that if they do not obey the rules of their religion, there will be retribution and consequences to their actions. Many people also fear the unknown in organized religion. The unknown factor would be not knowing if the religion is legitimate, not knowing if they are following their religion correctly, or even not knowing their exact placement in the world. Fear can be a positive and also a negative thing in organized religion, because if someone has a fear of doing wrongful things, then more than likely they will refrain from doing them. An example of fear would be persecution of other religions throughout time. Persecution has happened for hundreds of years, but specifically the Jews were persecuted because it was believe that they were responsible for Jesus’ death. For fear of having the Jews around, many Christians cast them away because of fear.
