World Civilization 101-A
I didn’t get the story all the way they were kind of jumping from part to party to like summarize it I guess. The most I got from the story was how Gilgamesh was unhappy with the beautiful gift that the gods had given him. He was kind of greedy. He wanted more he wanted immortality. He wanted this gift because of seeing his brother die he became afraid of dying. Gilgamesh went on a quest to find the gift of immortality without any rest and he came upon a tavern keeper Siduri who he talks to about you know his fear of death and she in turn tells him that he’ll “never find the life for which he is seeking” and that he should live his life and enjoy it to the fullest because when the gods made man allotted to death.
So as Gilgamesh continues on his quest for Immortality he runs in Utnapishtim who basically tell him the same thing like do we build house to last forever and what not. Also, how sleep and dead are alike and that “Life and death the allot but the day of death they do not disclose.” So he’s going on the quest meets all these people who is telling him hey man like you can’t escape it death will find you its apart of life, so just live your life and stop running from it cause he’s wasting his time.
Now in this Law code of Hammurabi the second one states which I think is very crazy that if you make an accusation against a man and that man jumps in the river and dies you take his home if he lives you die and
