Earthquakes
1- Earthquakes create dust, debris and gas emissions which release toxic gas which pollute our air. Earthquakes can also trigger volcanic eruptions which can cause more carbon to be in the air.
2- 1968 Illinois earthquake. It caused significant structural damage to buildings, the toppling of chimneys and shaking in Chicago. It affected 23 states and measured up to 5.4 on the Richter scale.
3- Earthquakes are measured on the Richter scale. They are classified as dangerous from as low as 6.1 on the Richter scale to 8 or even higher. Earthquakes in the 7 and higher zone can be extremely damaging and can destroy anything in its path.
4- Stay as far away from buildings, bridges or anything that could fall on you if you are driving or just outside. If you are inside, Drop onto your hands and knees, cover you head and neck and hold on to shelter until the shaking stops.
