Adapting to Workplaces
When you have all the same kind of people in one place, it is difficult to make a business or corporation succeed. So to elude these conflicts it is important that the businesses build a dissimilar atmosphere for all the employees. Head start/Early Head Start is a federal funded program that has programs all over the united states, and in each of the programs there are many different staff and students with different skin colors, ethics, and cultures.
Head Start promotes the school readiness of young children from low-income families through agencies in their local community. The Head Start program is authorized by the Improving Head Start for School Readiness Act of 2007 ("Head Start," 2014). Head Start and Early Head Start programs support the mental, social, and emotional development of children from birth to age 5. These programs not only support education services, the programs also supports children and their families with health, nutrition, social, and other services. Head Start services are receptive to each child and family's ethnic, cultural, and linguistic heritage.
Head Start inspires parents to be their children’s first teacher. The Programs creates relations with families that support constructive parent-child relationships, family welfare, and influences to peers and community. Head Start originated as a program for preschoolers. Head Start provided services for over 80 percent of three and four year olds just last year.
Early Head Start provides services to pregnant women, infants, and toddlers. Early Head Start programs are services are provided to children until they turn three, they then transition over to Head Start. Early Head Start assist’s families with care for their infants and toddlers through early, constant, incentive, and understandable services.
Because I am an Head Start/ Early Head Start teacher I decided to interview my executive director. Ms. Burton is the Executive director of Community Services Programs of West Alabama. She is over 5 head start programs, meals on wheels, community actions and lot of other services for low income parents and children. I asked her 6 questions and she provided well thought answers for all. The questions that were asked:
1. With you being over the program how do you handle multicultural Diversity?
2. How do your teachers handle the situation
3. Do you feel that the Fayette Center loose more children because some the teachers are a different culture than the parents would like?
4. Do you think that the discrimination will ever change?
5. Do you ever worry that people will take this matter to whole other level and become violent?
6. What suggestions do you have to Fayette County a better place
There are many different diversity in my place of work. Diversity in the work place means that there are many types of groups to which the employees belong and these groups are not limited to things age, sex, gender, sexual orientation, educational background, geographic location, income, wedded status, armed experience, parental status, religious attitude, work knowledge, and job organization ("Webster’s dictionary," 2014).
. Ms. Burton Began by saying “out of all the five Head Start centers that she is over, she has the most problems out of Fayette County. She stated “Fayette County has more Caucasian people than any other and with history that this county has on racism, I have a lot complaints from parents that would rather have their children in a class with Caucasian teachers,”
Mrs. Burton stated “ the way she handles the situation is that she explains to the parents that the computer randomly places the children in classes by their ages, that her or the teachers has no control over how the classes are selected. She stated “I assure each parent that the child will be well taking care of, and they should not
