The communication strengths that I possess are non-judgemental, caring, honesty, and trustworthiness. I am able to recognize when I am becoming stressed. For example, when my husband and I are having a disagreement and I feel that I am getting upset, I relieve myself from the situation. Later when I am calm, I enter the room and me and husband talk out the issue in a more effective way. Then there is the ability to make eye contact with the person that is talking. Making eye contact is important because it shows respect and interest. In order for the listener to be fully engaged with what the speaker is discussing the speaker has to be giving eye contact. Lastly, I am able to empathize with what is really troubling others. Someone great once said, “effective communication is 20% what you know and 80% how you feel about what you know” John Rohn. The communication weakness that I need to improve is not interrupting during a discussion. When I feel strongly about something I have a hard time with holding my feelings inside. Interrupting is a way for me to get my feelings out. Something else I could improve is looking for humor in a situation. When I have a discussion I take everything serious and personal and that can ruin many relationships. For instance, my friends like to joke a lot and sometimes I can take their jokes seriously. I may not talk to my friends for weeks at times. Overall, I am a great communicator but there are things that I can improve on. I am not
