Blank Verse: Verse without rhyme, especially that which uses iambic pentameter.
Soliloquies: A device often used in drama when a character speaks to himself or herself, relating thoughts and feelings, thereby also sharing them with the audience. Other characters, however, are not aware of what is being said.
Asides: An aside is a dramatic device in which a character speaks to the audience. By convention the audience is to realize that the character's speech is unheard by the other characters on stage. It may be addressed to the audience expressly (in character or out) or represent an unspoken thought.
Foreshadowing: A warning or indication of (a future event).
Dramatic Irony: Exists in speeches or a situation of a drama and is understood by the audience but not grasped by the characters in the play.
Traits of a Tragic Hero: The tragic hero is a character of noble stature and has greatness. Though the tragic hero is pre-eminently great, s/he is not perfect. The hero’s downfall is usually triggered by some error in judgment or some character flaw that contributes to the hero's lack of perfection noted above.
