Do math and religion ascribe to similar standards? We perceive math and religion to be on two different spectrum but math and religion do ascribe to similar standards in some ways and don’t in other. How we perceive math can seem very different to how we perceive religion. Religion seems to most of us on a higher level then math, however we just don’t look deep enough to see the similarities between the two. Math and religion ascribes to the same standards because we perceive religion and math to be both solely based on belief. Math is based on our belief because, numbers were just symbols given to us and we were taught to put value to those symbols. To us, math is something we just believe in because we are told to take it as the truth. Without the belief in the symbols we wouldn’t be able to manipulate numbers and do actual math with them. We don’t question the numbers in math we just accept them. It is the same as religion we are given information about our religion and we have to take that as true and we don’t question it, and are just told to accept it. Religion is based on faith, and there is no way to prove everything in a religion we just believe what is told to us. In this aspect math and religion ascribe to similar standards, since they are based on a belief. Another way math and religion ascribe to similar standard is that both math and religion have been in our world for a very long time and are both affected by history. Math and religion were both passed on from generation to generation and to some extent has been manipulated. They both change as our knowledge increase through generations. The math we have today is not the same and the math they had in the past, we use it more in our lives and it has been improved through the years with the scientific revolution where scholars like Newton, Descartes, Galilei, improved math with laws, and postulates and this lead to the wide varieties of topics in math. The same could be said for religion, in the past most people were one religion and it was predetermined but during the protestant revolution many new religion were formed which lead to our wide varieties of religion today. This show that both religion and math ascribe to similar, because neither one was perfect nor strong enough to remain unchanged through history they both were perceived to be flawed in the eyes of human beings throughout history and were changed. Furthermore we perceive math and religion to be important. Religion and math are both embedded in our lives. We use math in our lives every day and everyone is expected to know math to some extent, since it’s so embedded in our cultural, for instance, money is held to such a big value and knowing how to count money is something most people are familiar with. Also religion, assuming a person has a religion, it is very embedded in people’s everyday lives. Religion, are basically the guidelines to how people live their life, depending what religion a person is affiliated with, their religious guidelines translate through their actions, for example if a women is a Muslim she will dress modestly in her

Raja Abdelmajid Sexuality, Science, and the Bible The role that the bible should play in discussions about sexuality should be based on weather an individual has faith in the bible. There may be people who are of a certain faith, but they do not practice it as they should. I personally do not believe that the bible should be taken as literally as it is, because it is not the verbatim word of God. It should play a rather important part for those who do believe in the bible, but as far as I know…
Religion versus Science has always been a controversial issue of our generation, “religion deals with super natural; science deals with natural”. In this assignment I will first evaluate Mr. S. J. Gould's essay “there is no conflict between religion and science” and then I will also evaluate R. Dawkins “Religion and Science Cannot Be Reconciled” and lastly I will state my personal opinion regarding this matter and why I believe religion and science can coexist together. In his essay “there is…
Vanessa Ortiz 4/29/13 HUM 101 “It is a science that has, traditionally, encroached on the terrain of religion, offering a natural explanation for what had previously been regarded as wondrous and even supernatural.” (Begley, p. 67) Both tradition and change have completely different meanings. Tradition is the passing down of elements of a culture from generation-generation…
Religion, Science and the Universe Introduction The debate on the existence of God has been on the minds and across the tables of many intellects, philosophers, religious leaders, even scientists. Different theories come up proving the existence or the nonexistence of a supreme being who controls all systems and is the giver and sustainer of life. Theories like these suggest that God exists and different religions have established and proved the existence of God. On the other hand, scientists…
Contrast between Religion and Science ! Whenever creationists and opponents of religion are brought together to discuss evolution and creationism, we are often coerced to choose between believing in the creation of mankind by an All-Powerful deity or accepting the theory of evolution; we must choose between religion and science. However, while I was researching for this paper, I couldn’t help asking myself if I must solely ascribe myself to ‘Team Religion’ or ‘Team Science’. Is opting for either…

The Rejection of Truth as Innately Good Vonnegut often juxtaposes science and religion in Cat's Cradle. He characterizes science as a form of discovering truth, while he characterizes religion as a form of creating lies. Despite this negative depiction of religion, Vonnegut's most severe criticisms are reserved for science and its goal of seeking and discovering truth. Vonnegut attacks the idea that truth is innately desirable and good, seeing it as a pervasive belief in our culture. He describes…
Science and Religion in ‘The Island of Dr. Moreau’ The Island of Dr. Moreau depicts the dueling concepts between science and religion. Throughout the Victorian Era within which H.G. Wells’ novel was written, turmoil between science and religion was at its peak. New scientific theories were proposed including Darwinism, which H.G. Wells strongly advocated as witnessed in his book. Many Christians opposed these findings as these new ideas often disproved what was written in the Bible. Therefore, a…
