My Final Project

In this paper I will be cover a wide rage of topics on diversity in the United States, racial, ethnic, and cultural history, as well as stereotyping and other alike topics. This paper will answer question directly related to a number of question as well as my own opinion.

What information about diversity in the United States has helped you better understand or relate to others in ways that you may not have in the past? The United States is made up of many races, cultures, and ethnicities, which makes it the most divers country. What I have learned is that every group has differences and just as many similarities. Learning about all the differences has taught me to be more accepting as well as understanding of them. When I opened myself up to their differences I’ve embraced them as I would if they were family and or friends. I’ve also learned how it is to live as another because of new knowledge gained in research. In the end everyone no matter race, culture, or ethnic wants to be accepted, loved and be happy. Focusing on ones differences and judging them based on them is something that others have done in the past, however I have come to realize choosing to be closed off is only hindering and holding me back from who I can be.
Have you learned something new about your own racial, ethnic, or cultural history? There is much about my race that many of us already know much about, including myself. Many would look at me and would see a white girl, and would think they know everything there is to know about me. I myself thought the same thing because what I was taught in school and from living in today’s world. Everyone thinks that whites are prejudice because of the past and what is says, but I for one am not like that. As for my culture there is not much to know and or learn and that is by choice. Learning about the past doesn’t always relate to one person, rather it covers everyone so I just choose to live and learn what I need to day by day about my culture and ethnic background.

Trends in immigration will continue to shape the demographics of the United States. What will the U.S. population look like in the year 2050? Why do you think so? If we a look at what the U.S. will be like in the year 2050, the nation will become an almost non-white and or minority culture. If it is numbers that someone is looking for we could roughly say that there will be 100 million more people than what we have today. People today are living much longer than they did in the past, which means the population is growing older and older. People are worried hat so many are living so long that one day the United States will run out of money and resources in order to support itself. Personally I think this is the result of so many having children in the baby boomer age in the 1970’s and that number keeps growing. People are finding ways to live longer, some out lasting disease and such.

What challenges does the United States face due to the diversity of its people? The United States faces many challenges because it has such a divers culture. The biggest challenge is understanding and appreciating the various cultures because it does not always exist in today’s society, such as the classroom or work place. To define what diversity is one must first understand it, and that is where the problem begins. If one person was asked to define what they thought about cultural diversity they would give you a different answer from the next person asked. Diversity is one of the great things about this country, but there are so many who think diversity are the routes of the problems. I for one think that diversity in our culture is one of the best things this country (United States) has to offer.
