CATALOG COURSE DESCRIPTION
Overview of current information systems literature. Coverage stresses the fit between information systems and the organization. Topics include business process reengineering, electronic commerce, IT architecture, strategic and global information systems, IT impact on organizations, information systems planning, operations, and control.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Provide an overview of contemporary information system topics such as electronic commerce, outsourcing, IT vision and architecture, strategic and global information systems, business process reengineering.
Explore emerging trends in information technology.
Examine critical issues related to information technology management.
Be able to guide the development or purchase of an information system that is effective, reliable, secure, and consistent with business directions.
Envision future impact of information technology on managers, organizations, and society.
Understand the need for an organizational information technology infrastructure.
Be able to identify potential strategic applications of information technology.
Make future managers aware of and sensitive to the social, ethical, and legal issues associated with the use of information technology

TEACHING METHODS
Critical thinking exercises, lecture, discussion, group projects, case analysis, and lab exercises.

All homework assignments should be typed and submitted on time. There will be some unannounced in-class assignments covering the assigned readings. In-class assignments cannot be made up. Grade discrepancy should be resolved with the instructor within a week of the due date.
