Voyages of Christopher Columbus | The Four Voyages of Columbus | Participants | Christopher Columbus and crew | Location | Americas | Date | Between 1492 and 1506 | Result | European exploration of the Americas | In the early modern period, the voyages of Columbus initiated European exploration and colonization of the American continents, and are thus of great significance in world history. Christopher Columbus was a navigator and an admiral for Castile, a country that later founded modern After continually lobbying at the los Reyes Catolicos court and two years of negotiations, he finally had success in 1492. Queen Isabella's forces had just conquered the Moorish Emirate of Granada, the last Muslim stronghold of Al-Andalus on the Iberian peninsula, for Castile. Isabella and Ferdinand, received Columbus in the Alcázar (castle) in Córdoba. Legend says Isabella turned Columbus down on the advice of her confessor, and he was leaving town by mule in despair, when Ferdinand intervened.[citation needed] Isabella then sent a royal guard to return him, and Ferdinand later claimed credit for being "the principal cause why those islands and their indigenous residents were first seen by Spaniards".[citation needed] About half of the financing was to come from private Italian investors, whom Columbus had already lined up. Financially broke after the Granada campaign, the monarchs left it to the royal treasurer to shift funds among various royal accounts on behalf of the enterprise. Columbus was to be made "Admiral of the Seas" and would receive a portion of all profits. The terms were unusually generous, but as his son later wrote, the monarchs did not really expect him to return. According to Columbus' contract made for the expedition commission by Queen Isabella for Castile, if Columbus claimed any new islands or mainland for the Crown, he would receive many high rewards. In terms of power, he would be given the rank of Admiral of the Ocean Sea and appointed

the west of the Americas in that time frame. The gold discovery that caught the eye of the world and brought attention to California happened on January 24, 1848 two week right before the peace signing negotiations between the Mexico and American governments (hittell, 1999) . In short the Mexican government gave up a huge discovery in the California’s lands that they had control over at that time. Europe’s Relationship With the Americas The year was 1493 when Christopher Columbus first wrote about his discovery of the Americas. The finding of this new land drastically altered the history of Europe. Immediately after the discovery of the Americas, Europe used the new land to expand economically by seeking resources, which they could use and sell to other countries. They exploited the natives and used them as slaves for their own benefit. While exchanging resources, they brought with them diseases…
Upon completion of first grade, it is likely that children in America will have learned about the famous maritime explorer and navigator, Christopher Columbus. Born in 1451, Columbus was a Genoese captain commissioned by the king and queen of Spain to find a route to the Indies. However, he sailed the opposite direction of his intended goal by crossing the Atlantic and landing in the Americas, resulting in the discovery of the New World for Spain. Like all major figures in history, Columbus has left…
the eyes of many, he is the hero who discovered America. Yet, others see him as a villain who committed genocide. Through it all, Columbus should be better known as a hero. Columbus is a hero who “discovered” the United States for the civilized world to see, and whose actions were justified, because of the time period he lived in. In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue with the Niña, Pinta and Santa Maria, which led to one of the biggest discoveries that changed the world. As Michael Berliner said…
I think there is a lot evidence to support the Clovis and Coastal entry theories, whether by Pacific or Atlantic oceans. I think it is entirely possible that all the methods were used in migration of people to the Americas. One of my favorite quotes is from the movie Jurassic Park, “Life finds a way”. I believe that people came to this land any which way that they were presented at any given moment. Some probably did set out from Asia by foot or sea, Some probably from Siberia when the Bering Strait…
nothing wrong with any of the theories of the discovery of the new world. Among myriads of missing information, speculations, criticisms, and emerging evidence, one theory stands out among the rest: the New World was once known as Vinland. However, there is a distinction between the discovery of the New World in terms of the Western Hemisphere, and the discovery of the area of land which we know today as America. For the purposes of this piece, discovery shall refer to the cardinal encounter of the…
History Paper Who discovered America? By: Deanne Mastrocola Why is it that American culture today attributes its geographic discovery to a man named Christopher Columbus? Could it be that he was the first European to claim this land as part of an Imperialistic expansion or is it merely out of convenience for the history books? It is known that the American continent was populated by 1000 AD which is long before settlements by Viking fisherman and even longer before the arrival of Columbus…
They are both alike because the Holocaust was when Hitler killed Jews for just being themselves, and when Columbus killed basically the whole population of Taino people. Although some people argue that Columbus discovered America, he brought diseases there. she is saying that people think that Columbus is not a hero because there were already people living there before Columbus. To demonstrate, on document #4, Carroll says “Many are telling us…
