Lactose intolerance is the inability to digest lactose, and is not caused by a foreign pathogen or bacteria, therefore it has no appearance. It just just caused because the body is unable to produce the lactose enzyme that helps break down the sugars found in dairy products. This just causes bacteria to break down the lactose instead of the enzymes. Which causes people to be very uncomfortable. It may cause diarrhea, bloating, and gas. Being lactose intolerant is normal and some people do not consider it be even be a disease. 75 percent of the world's population has lactose intolerance.

Usually when someone eats something that has lactose in it an enzyme created in the small intestine breaks down the lactose ion glucose and galactose. These two are easily absorbed into the bloodstream and turned into energy for the body, however if someone is lactose intolerant their body does not produce enough of the enzyme to break down lactose so the undigested lactose just sits in the gut and gets broken down by bacteria. This can cause gas, bloating and many other symptoms that are not life threatening. It is something that someone usually gets as they age because as they get old their body produces less and less of the enzyme needed to break down lactose. People may also become lactose intolerant because of an injury that has affected their small intestine, causing it to stop producing the enzyme. It starts off in the small intestine, where cells do not produce enough of the enzyme that helps break down lactose that is the sugar in dairy. This means that the body cannot absorb the sugar which causes it to move into the large intestine. Bacteria then ferments the sugar which can cause symptoms such as gas, bloating cramps and diarrhea.
