Princess Diana Dies in Paris Crash
The discussion of how the interaction of speaker, audience, and subjects affects the text is fundamental one because it determines how effective the text is in achieving its purpose.
The purpose of this text is not to tell readers only how Princess Diana died but also who’s responsible for the death and criticize them. However the news report failed to achieve their purpose they lacked to criticize the press, who were responsible for the death. Apparently BBC does not do a good job because they do not understand rhetoric and how it is situational. As a speaker they seem to be very boring and their details are not specific. As a speaker Earl does an excellent job at presenting himself as a common man who does care for Princess Diana. Also has problem with too much appeal for emotions because of the overuse of positive connotation that starts to bore the reader. Earl does know his subject is the eulogy, but Earl does not realize that he could have made it shorter and less wordy. He also knows his audience, those whom are still devastated by the news. However in his eulogy he never actually gives examples for any of the positive connotations that he wrote or spoke. This blunder weakens the overall effectiveness of the purpose because that entire positive connotation becomes insignificant due to the lack of evidence for it. Also the excessive appeal to emotion does not increase the effectiveness rather it decreases because it starts to bore people, Also the eulogy is missing some logic because there seems to be no rational ideas or any overarching morals one should follow. But in the end, it is still substantial in others ways as well. Also the shift from “I” to “We” is not that effective in the previous one because it is too repetitive and drifts off to tangent without adding any significance.
