Victims of awareness under anesthesia, a very scary scenario. Personally, I believe that the statement of Carol about how she was screaming at the top of her lungs and nobody could listen, while she was having a surgical procedure under general anesthesia is what the report used to attract attention to this video.
The topic: The importance of every personnel involved in a surgical procedure of being aware of the level of consciousness of the patient while under general anesthesia.
The controlling topic is while under general anesthesia. That it should never happen. -1
Patient safety is a duty of all the personnel involve in a surgical procedure. Clinicians, nurses, hospital administrators, government, organizations and patients need to come up with strategies to improve consciousness of patients while under general anesthesia.
It is a matter of determination to find keys to monitor for level of consciousness while under anesthesia, enablement and teaching of the patient, circles the tone of this video.
How come should any person be involve in such a dramatic experience of being an observer of their own surgery by staying conscious and alert of the procedure, because a failure of the effects of general anesthesia? Currently, an anesthesiologist doesn’t count with any method of knowing if a patient is completely sedated.
The statistics of 21 million people that go under general anesthesia, 21 thousand are aware of what is happening during the procedure just unacceptable.
Many testimonies from surgeons, anesthesiologist, technicians, and nurses, gave support to the necessity of monitoring patient’s level of consciousness during a surgery under general anesthesia. Particularly, the testimony of Carol Weihrer has been a great value to support this matter.
Several individuals associated with general anesthesia agreed that the level of consciousness of patients is vital and technology has to advance in order achieve success.
