Destiny of the Republic Book Review
Destiny of the Republic, was a very informative book that appealed to my interest. I didn’t know anything about Garfield before reading this book, frankly I didn’t even know he was the 20th president of the United states. I’m not the history type of person, when reading books about history to far into the past I get lost, it takes multiple tries for me to understand what’s happening. After reading Destiny of the Republic I have a better view of who President James Garfield was, and how he became president, but most of all how his life played out. His life at a young age and as a middle-aged person all helped to shape who he was during presidency and after. It almost feels like you are living the life of James Garfield that’s how intense and well-illustrated Destiny of the Republic is. There are parts from the book that I had wished Millard went into more detail with such as what exactly happened to Guiteau after he went to jail for the assentation of the president.
I personally would only recommend this book to ones that are very intrigued into history. If you like history occurrences this is the book for you it goes into farther detail of president James Garfield. Destiny of the Republic is informative, eye catching, and most importantly exciting. I feel Millard wrote this book to not farther her education, but to farther her readers education as well. After reading this book I now have a different outlook on history, and what it really means to me and why it’s so important to
