Definitely Unexpected

I saw him coming towards me with this white light behind him. There were gold specks beaming off of his body. All I could do was smile. He was so angelic. Watching him was so peaceful and serene. My life felt complete. I started reaching for him. I was just about to grab him when… The siren sound that my 7:45 alarm clock made woke me in an instant. I was panting and I felt sweat break out over my forehead. ‘Enough dreaming,’ I thought. ‘Time to get a move on.’ I eased my way out of bed, grabbed my robe and toiletries, and took that slow walk to the bathroom down the hall. Once inside, I began brushing my teeth. I thought to myself, ‘What are you getting yourself into, Sabrina?’ I finished brushing my teeth, washed my face, and went back to my room to get dressed. On my way to class, I ran into my sister, Brittany. “Hey sis, what’s up?” she said. “Nothing much,” I groaned out. “Oh, you’re not still thinking about last night, are you?” “I can’t help but think about it!” “Ok, ok, I understand. Just try to have a good day. Alright?” “Ok,” I said and continued to walk to my class. I was irritated all over again. Why did she have to go and ask me about last night? I did not want to revisit it, that’s for sure. But, then I did start thinking about last night, and I started thinking about Chris. Then I started thinking about Chris’s face, and his lips, and his…no. I had to stop. I needed to move on. So, I just spent the rest of the day trying not to think about Chris and went on about my business. Around 6:00, I went to dinner. It was the usual: loud. Why did I have to have boys as friends? Chris was there, of course. I sat there, quiet as usual and only giving my two cents when I felt necessary. The boys, of course, talked about women, ones that were in the cafeteria and ones that were not. Chris always annoys me when he talks about other women. It’s like he doesn’t even know that I’m sitting there, or he does and he does it to make me jealous. Either way I thought he was immature. While sitting at the table, I sent Chris a text message. “I want to talk to you later…” I texted him. “Okay, what time?” “Around 10. Just meet me outside of my dorm.” “Okay. I’ll text you when I’m out front.” I was always scared to talk to Chris. I never knew how he would respond to the things I would say. He had a bit of a temper. Suddenly, I felt someone looking at me. It was Rick. I looked up and we made eye contact for a while. He had no clue what I was going to tell Chris tonight. Chris did not see us make eye contact; thank God. After dinner, I walked back to my dorm. When I got inside, I ran into Brittany again. She looked as though she had been sleeping all day, which could possibly be the case because she’s incredibly lazy. Her sweatpants sagged a little bit, revealing her shorts underneath. He hair was in a messy bun, and she had on white tank top under her hoodie. It took her a minute to gather herself before she talked to me. I could tell she had taken that good nap. “Where you headed?” I asked her. “The caf,” she answered. “Like that?” “Girl, yes. I’m not tryin’ to impress nobody. I just want to get some food and come back and go to sleep. What are you about to do?” “I’m about to do some homework before I go and talk to Chris.” “About last night?” “No, not about last night,” I said, becoming irritated. “I’m telling him that things have to end between us. I don’t think he really knows what he wants. It’s clear that he doesn’t want to be in a relationship. So, I’m just going to tell him that I’ve chosen to be with Rick. We can still be friends, though.” Brittany looked at me with this look that said, ‘Please you are not going to tell him that’. I knew that look all too well. “Don’t give me that look. I’m going to tell him this, and Rick and I are going to be together.” “Okay, Sabrina, whatever you say.”
