Defining Marketing Paper In today’s world, marketing form part of the backbone in organizations. Many areas that entail the success of a business is supported by marketing. Today, the television, billboards, and the Internet are tools marketers are using to conduct the promoting area of their tasks, doing it with more success because of the advances in technology. In this paper, marketing will be defined from a personal and educational source. The reader will learn the importance of marketing in organizational success supported by examples from the business world. Marketing is the process of designing, promoting, selling, and distributing a product. Businesses, people, services, goods, events, places, properties, and information are some of many entities marketing focuses. According to the American Marketing Association marketing is the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large (AMA, 2011). Many people think marketing is just about selling and advertizing, but a complex process that prioritizes the customer needs. Marketing is the performance of activities that seek to accomplish an organization’s objectives by anticipating customer or client needs and directing a flow of need-satisfying goods and services from producer to customer or client (Perrault. W, Cannon. J, McCarthy J, 2009). Marketing plays a crucial part in the success of organizations. Everything we do from the TV programs we watch, our choice of restaurants, stores we shop, books we read, and the choices of goods and services we select are a result of marketing. An organization is composed of many areas in which marketing if part of. Designing, promoting, selling, and distributing are factors of marketing and the success on these areas will determine the profitability of an organization. For instance, a company selling cellular phones, before ordering their selection of phones, marketers examine these phones features, durability, technological advances, weight, color, design, and specs. Marketers, after researches will conclude customers need concerning cellular phones, the features on demand, warranty from manufacturers, cellular phones reviews, costs, etc. Marketers will determine price, place where certain phones will sell more, and the promotion to give to most demanded phones. The delivery of the product is also taken into consideration in this process. Marketing is about meeting needs profitability. Starbucks Coffee is a trendy store that was founded in 1971 in Seattle’s Pikes Place Market. The original name of this company was Starbucks coffee, Tea, and Spices, but changed to Starbucks Coffee (Starbucks, 2011). This company went from a local business to one that has spread around 50 countries.
