Should prostitution be legal?

Prostitutes deserve the legalization of their profession for their own benefit and for that of the society around them

It is the obligation of the U.S Government to make prostitution legal in order to fully protect its citizens partaking in that profession as well as to increased tax revenue to better the nation as a whole. Prostitution is the occupation of engaging in sexual activity with someone for payment. It is often referred to as the oldest profession because since the dawn of time the sale of sex for money or goods was prevalent in society. Just like any legal job; there would rules and regulations to maintain human rights and tax money will be obtained for the government. Prostitutes will be able to monitor their STD status and gain self respect.

If prostitution were legal throughout the United States it would become a legitimate job. Along with a legitimate jobs, comes it’s perks. When prostitutes don’t have to do business under the books, there would be benefits to the community and for them. According to a study in Canada; where prostitution is already legal, “The recent Canadian court decision helps establish social justice for sex workers in Canada. The court ruled for laws that put prostitutes at risk by preventing them from working outdoors, screening clients or hiring bodyguards.” This proves that prostitution should be legal for the protection of citizens. Prostitutes are people too, so they have the human right to be treated as such. The legal regulation of this rarely spoken about job will form a sense of safety for sex workers in the United States. Prostitution would be unionized and the workers would be able to come together
