1) What sort of poem do you think it is?

It is a poem about bravery and courage of war and soldiers, But also has some sad truths e.g. ‘fought…well’ inclining they died.

2) What sorts of men are being described? Give evidence to support your view.

They seem courageous at the start of the play fighting for their country until when they treat their wounded friend when they chuck him into a wagon which makes them seem like animals.

3) What do you think of the men being described?

I think the men are very brave for going into war and it must be horrible as it is described as the ‘jaws of death’, until they throw their wounded friend into a wagon they then seem disgusting people
