Data misuse
Is someone using data without permission without authorisation of something that is not allowed whether that it’s illegal or for something that is not originally intended. For example copying someone’s email address that they provided for payment and using it to send them spam and advertising. An email may be intercepted. Someone may read something on an unattended monitor. Data may be sold from a business to another business for profit. Discarded printouts with client and customers details on may be found in bins.
Method’s to use to protect your data. * The best way to protect yourself and data is by encrypting the data and placing it in to a restricted access controlled area. * Do not transport data on unprotected software or hardware. Someone can get your data through a CD-ROM or memory stick which may have been left somewhere by mistake. * Have secure passwords which get changed regularly and firewalls which protect against hackers. A hacker may break into a network, your password may have been guessed. * Do not leave a monitor unattended or if needed have a monitor locks or lock the computer. * Make sure you do not give sensitive data to business. Or check that they cannot give the data to another business. * To use a shredding service on all documents instead of discarding those to make sure that the documents cannot get into the wrong hands.

Hacking means finding out weaknesses in an established system and exploiting them. A hacker is a person who finds the weaknesses and exploits it.
