DAP Field Experience 2

Describe

This lesson was about comprehension for the students with a bit of sequencing. I first showed the students the book cover and asked them what they thought the story might be about. Some of them linked the book to the nursery rhyme “Hey Diddle, Diddle” while some of them did not. Then we took a picture walk through the book to see if we could tell what the story was by the pictures. Some students got into it and started telling their own story while some just observed. Finally we read the story and discussed as we went whether or not the story matched up to our expectations. Then we discussed the elements of the story, the main characters, the purpose, the setting, the problem and solution and reviewed what happened in the beginning, middle and end of the story. Finally I asked the students to completed a pre-made story map and illustrate the events and characters in the story.

The also understood the concepts of beginning, middle, and end very well. However, I felt the story was a little over their head or they had not had enough experience with some elements in the story. In the future I would pick a story that had a little bit more concrete sequencing for this task.
