“Danish zoo kills giraffe to prevent inbreeding”.(Richard steed). In Denmark this past Sunday, a two year old giraffe named Marius was shot and killed then later thrown to the lions. Other zoos heard about the problem that had appeared and tried to help out by offering to buy it or relocate it, but the zoo wouldn’t allow it. The animal was a healthy male who had been bred with to many genes that were a like and the zoo was scared of a messed up baby. So the zoo used him as a science lesson by skinning him in front of everyone who wanted to watch.
In my personal opinion I believe this was the wrong thing to do, I also believe the author feels the same. The author stated many times that their were other options for the giraffe but they were all denied. The zoo could have easy sold the giraffe and made a “pretty penny” but that wasn’t the case. In the article the writer tries to persuade you by using emotional appeal to not go to the zoo anymore. The author said, “the only way to stop this is to not visit the zoos, that way they cant keep killing to make more money”. The article brings up many different sources such as other zoos, wealthy people, and more journalist. I don’t believe every source is the best he could have gotten but I do believe they are all reliable sources because most of them had first hand accounts with the zoo in trying to save the giraffe of were there when it was killed. With that being said I also believe this article is bias to the giraffes side because they don’t mention the effects of inbreeding they
