TASK B
Why is it important to safeguard children and young people? It is important to safeguard children and young people to prevent the child from any significant harm or danger. Every child has the right and deserve to live without fear of being abused, neglected or come any harm. Protecting children from harm means they are safe and will grow up to be confident, strong willed and determined instead of being scared, nervous or frightened. Children with a disability are more likely to suffer from abuse or neglect. It is our job as practitioners to help protect children from harm and recognise any signs or symptoms.
Explain why a person-centered approach is important in safeguarding the well-being of children or young people.
A person or child centered approach is important because every child is unique, different and an individual. Every child matters was created to support children and young people to ensure every individual achieves the 5 Every Child Matters outcomes: Healthy, Stay Safe, Enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution and achieve economic well-being.
The child centered approach promotes the right of the child or young person to choose, make connections and communicate. Children’s wishes need to be taken into account when making a decision concerning them, this gives them a sense of belonging, not to be made to feel that its them to blame. This should be done in a sensitive manor and the child should be listened to, to find out how and what they are feeling and what they would like.
A child centered approach allows the child or young person to think, experience, explore and question.
Explain what is meant by partnership working in the context of safeguarding.
Partnership working is when different agencies are working together to help safeguard the child. Different agencies such as social services, nursery’s, police, doctors, schools, and additional support therapists keep in contact with each other so they are all up to date with what is happening with the child and they all follow the same plan but doing their part which is put in place for that child to keep them safe.
