1.1 Explain the importance of multi agency working and integrated working ------------------------------------------------- As an early years setting I have a responsibility to help the children in my care achieve the 5 outcomes of the UK Governments Every Child Matters (ECM) – Be Healthy, Stay Safe, Enjoy & Achieve, Make a positive contribution and Achieve economic well-being. Whilst we as practitioners do everything we can to achieve this it is important that we contact and utilise other professionals if needed to help us achieve these outcomes. This is where multi-agency and integrated working comes in. By working together with different sectors, Make sure they have clear aims, roles and responsibilities and timetables that have been agreed between the different agencies also that good communication and information sharing is carried out. -------------------------------------------------
1.5 Explain how and why referrals are made between agencies As a professional living in Medway, if I would like to refer a child to any multi agency I would decide i.e. the child is at immediate risk or if the child just has a need. If I was referring a child at immediate risk I would phone the 24 hour emergency line for Customer First Adult and Children's Team in Medway and then follow advice given or either complete the online referral form or print off a copy of the referral form and fax the completed form to the same number. If I was referring a child in need of support I would print off a referral form and either fax or post this to the department. Early intervention teams are part of the multiagency panel which helps make referrals easier by providing advice, support and training and also liaises with everyone involved parents careers, childcare practitioners and other professional agencies involved. -------------------------------------------------
