Culture Shock I always have wanted to travel to different countries to experience the cultures of different people found around the world. One thing I find both fascinating and discouraging is the fact that there are so many people who inhabit this earth and we know so little about each other, often to the point where we are almost afraid to interact. Mainly the thing that would have caused the most amount of culture shock within me visiting the Yanomamo would have been the fact that they were naked when I arrived. So to avoid being embarrassed in these situations is to research this culture to be aware of how Yanomano interact with people. I do believe that I would be able to handle pretty much anything else that may have been thrown at me, but being from a culture that teaches us that nudity is unwelcome and inappropriate in public settings it would have taken some getting used to. One example of culture shock I experienced in my life time happened during a family vacation to New York City I took with my parents as a child. Being from a not so large city I couldn’t get used to the hustle and bustle of the business minded big apple. I believe it would be safe to say that the people there were downright rude, but realize as an adult that New York (especially in the city) was a fast paced quickly moving machine and people just didn’t have time for the pleasantries, they had places to go and things to do. I

Cheria Averitte Professor Hasan English 104 10 February 2015 Culture Shock “Usted no puede venir.” These were words that I did not expect to hear while at the host school in Mexico.
