Dear Judge Danforth, 1692

I am writing to you today to tell you that Elizabeth and I are people of God. We go to church and we do know our commandments by heart, Reverend Hale came by the other night and made us recite them. Elizabeth is a lovely woman and has done no harm. She is very honest and takes care of her kids. She does not deserve to be accused of witch craft.
Abigail is a whore, I tell you! She is a lying whore! Abigail will lie about anything just to keep her name good in the town. She’s crazy! She is full of jealousy and revenge against my good wife Elizabeth. I am ashamed of myself to tell you that I, John Proctor, had an affair with Abigail. I was talking with her behind the shed and she was pleading me to come back to her again but I told her that I’d cut my hand off before I’d reach for her again. She bad mouthed Elizabeth and told me that Elizabeth was a cold sniveling woman. Abigail will do anything to keep her name good in town and cure her sexual desires.
I am begging you Judge to believe me and forgive me as well! I have confessed to what I have done wrong, but Abigail has taken things too far! She is so crazy that she is probably the one who stabbed herself in the stomach with the needle from the poppet. Elizabeth has done no wrong, she is innocent! Elizabeth fired Abigail, now all Abigail wants is revenge and for her to hang so that Abigail can have me
