Control People Not Guns Based on a survey data from the U.S. Department of Justice, roughly 5,340,000 violent crimes were committed in the United States during 2008. These include simple/aggravated assaults, robberies, sexual assaults, rapes, and murders. Of these, about 436,000 or 8% were committed by offenders visibly armed with a gun. The USA has the highest death rate than any other industrialized nation. Although, not all of the deaths in the USA are caused by guns but instead of natural causes. Britain has among the strongest gun control laws in the nation but neither guns nor gun control was the reason for the difference in murder rates. People were the difference. Most of our severe crimes in the USA are by people with mental disabilities that suffer from mental illnesses. Why should Americans pay for what others do? We shouldn’t be denied on owning a gun because it’s our right as a citizen or noncitizen. This issue is important to every American because it’s usually on the news every single day. Every American being noncitizen or citizen has an opinion about guns, either being good or bad. The Constitution of the United States compromised to guarantee ten amendments for the rights of individuals. The ten amendments were known as the Bill of Rights which protects every person living in the United States, both citizens and noncitizens. The second amendment clearly states, “A well regulated-militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed” (Bill of Rights). We as Americans being citizens or noncitizens have the right to own a gun. It is our individual rights as an American to have full control of owning a gun in America, according to the Bill of Rights. Our constitutional right as an American will be liberated if we don’t have the right to bear a gun. Individual rights can improve consumer choice, and encourages responsibility and accountability. The society could learn from others and understand that owning a gun is not easy. It brings great responsibilities for the one who owns a gun. There shouldn’t be a gun control for many reasons and one of them being is that its injustice. There should be a balance between the welfare of each individual and the good of the overall population. We should all live in happiness to separate our selfish ways and benefit others. It’s already been estimated that half percent of the households in the USA own guns. Everyone in America has different opinions on this issue but our society should be considerate and respect other people’s rights. Restricting guns would affect everyone in the USA especially those who hunt. Hunting is a hobby for every American and if guns would be refused then it would affect their life and their pursuit of happiness. Just because guns often fall on the hands of people with mental disabilities and lead to violent crimes, Americans shouldn’t have to pay for other people’s action. On February 7, 2013 there was a General Assembly where Governor Martin O’Malley’s proposal caused controversy. O’Malley urged state legislators to approve for what he called, “A comprehensive approach to curbing gun violence” (O’Malley). As Governor of Maryland he supposedly wants the best for its people. Who wouldn’t want the best for their loved ones? As a Gov. of Maryland he declared, “A ban on the sale of military-style weapons and high-capacity magazines and require licensing and training on handgun buyers” (O’Malley). Martin O’Malley’s proposal shocked every resident in Maryland. Every American strongly believes that O’Malley is violating our constitutional rights. The Gov. Martin O’Malley left everything clear just by saying, “I will infringe on legitimate gun ownership and the rights of hunters” (O’Malley). In other words Gov. Martin O’Malley will undermine or limit the rights of gun ownership and hunters. Is
