Argumentative Essay

Ever since you were little, your parents have been talking about this wonderful thing called college. They told you that you have to go there to get an education before you can get a good job. Many kids have dreamed of going to college, and being able to get the job of their dreams. By putting in hard work and dedication to good grades in high school, you had high hopes that you would be able to get into an Ivy League school. The American dream of being able to go to college to get a degree is sliding away from many people due to rising costs. With increasing tuition prices and job loss, the college dream is slowly and surely slipping away from many students and their families.

The first step in the college
Low interest, easy to get, student loans are driving the cost of education to levels beyond reason (USA Today, 1). Colleges need to find ways to cut costs and make tuition affordable, if they do not many students will not be able to attend school. Graduating with loans and school debt that cold equal a mortgage is not acceptable and something needs to be done to fix it (USA Today, 1). College is valuable and worth the payback that you get from it, but some people will not get a big enough payback to be able to get rid of all their student loans.
Some people will say that since college costs so much you do not need to attend college. Students will opt out of getting a degree and work at a low paying job for the rest of their lives. In doing so, some may find themselves without a pension, 401k and no real means of supporting themselves and / or a family. Other people suggest a solution to this is going to community college. It defrays the cost of college and you get all your general education classes out of the way. You pay hundreds for a class that would cost you thousands at a public or private university. Going for the first two years will greatly reduce the cost of college for the individual and their family (Phi Delta Kappan, 640-642). This is a great option for some people. You can live at home and still go to college, but it does take away from the college dorm experience. It also takes away from living on your own for the first time while if you were to attend
