Domestic abuse has always been an increasing problem. In today’s society it has become more recognized than in the past. As this problem has persisted millions of people have been effected by physical violence, sexual violence, physical and emotional abuse, and threats of violence. One must wonder if this is an epidemic due to the fact how many kinds of relationships are affected by this type of abuse that as including traditional marriages, same-sex partnerships or even relationships where there is no sexual relationship involved.

Physical Violence is the most flagrant form of domestic abuse, it is intentionally using physical force or using a weapon to harm, injury, disable or kill. Merely using body, size or strength to harm another person there is no retrain from injury, physical violence is intentionally meant to harm another person.
Sexual Violence can be used by force but it can also consist of having sex with somebody who is not capable to “refuse due to disability, illness, intimidation or the influence of alcohol or other drugs”. (Montaldo)
Threats of Violence can be also known as Mental Abuse just by using words, movements, cues, expressions or even by a weapons in communicating threats of injury, immobilize, rape or even in threating to kill.
Psychological and Emotional Abuse can be acts of controlling, threats of hurting family members, humiliation, and isolation, and economic abuse Diminishing self-esteem of their victim or embarrassing their victims, manipulation, coercive tactics to cause someone emotional trauma.

The majority of violence is towards women, this act of violence is carried out by intimate partners, such as spouses, fathers, or fathers-in-law. Domestic abuse is a national problematic issue that affects over four million women in the United States each year.

Domestic violence has many forms it is prolonged by cultural beliefs and customs based on the weakening of women it is a type of violence characterized by a pattern of abusive behaviors by one or both partners in a relationship. And can include physical aggression, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, and controlling behavior, as well as economic deprivation.
Domestic abuse is either concealed or denied by family and social traditions. When in fact gender violence is a historical, universal problem.
