Galvanic Cell
Aim:
The aim of this experiment is to measure the difference in voltage of different combinations of metals in electrolyte
Hypothesis:
I believe that zinc will produce the highest voltage output with nickel and then copper producing the least amount of volts
Theory:
The metal with the highest oxidation rate or the most reactive metal will produce the most volts,

Materials * 150mL beaker * 100mL measuring cylinder * DC voltmeter * Electrodes - Graphite, zinc nickel and copper * Electrolyte- 0.1molar solution of NaCl, HNO3, ZnSO4, KNO3 * Electrical leads * Alligator clips * 10mL dropper
Method
1. Set up materials 2. Use a measuring cylinder to measure 50mL of 0.1M of NaCl solution and pour into the 150mL beaker 3. Use the alligator clips to connect both Graphite and Nickel to the DC voltmeter, turn the knob on the DC meter to 2V 4. Submerge both the electrodes into the solution, keeping in mind that they must not touch each other 5. Record the results 6. Repeat the experiment again replacing the test metal –nickel with copper and zinc 7. Replace the NaCl solution with 50mL of 0.1M of HNO3 8. Again using the alligator clips, the Zinc and graphite electrodes are connected the DC meter and submerged into the KNO3 solution
