“We the people of the United States, In order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity do ordain and establish this constitution for the United States of America.”

The preamble gives a summary of what the framers believed to be the elements of the envisioned government-- form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity. The Preamble tells who we are, why we are writing it, and what we hope to achieve by it. The Constitution is a set of laws that will be used for everyone to follow and then the laws are listed following the Preamble.
“We the People of the United States”
The framers of the Constitution were more than the average person; in fact, they were a rather elite group of men – honorable, ambitions, smart. However, they wanted to ensure the success of their newly formed country by ensuring all people, even the common man were included. The idea behind this phrase was to indicate the Constitution was written for all and by all as opposed to some doctrine handed down by a deity or royalty. This would be similar to a family sitting down together to discuss house rules. This is not the parents giving orders with no input from the kids but a family meeting where suggestions are given by all and agreed to by all so that everyone feels included in the decision making process for the family unit.

“In Order to form a more perfect Union”
While there was a type of government in place under the Articles of Confederation there was room for improvement. The Constitution was an attempt to make everything better in the country. With the Constitution the United States would be more in line with how they envisioned it working in as perfect a place as possible. In order to make the house run more smoothly, you create the house rules to make everything better.
“Establish Justice”
In the past not everything was fair so the founders of the United States wanted to ensure nobody had an unfair advantage. They wanted to ensure laws considered everyone as equal so when problems arose, there were disagreements or someone was accused of a crime, each person would be treated fairly.
