Conflict Resolution

Conflicts are a daily part of my life. In my relationship with my spouse, co-workers, children, friends and family, we all share different opinions or sometimes we are just having a bad day. Those bad days can contribute to some pretty heated arguments, especially with the people that live directly with you, which may also feel like your coworkers. The last word is always a challenge for me. The scene whether its at home, in a bar, or at work may add volume to conflict. When my husband and I have conflicts it often is blown up!!! By blown up I mean it can be blown out of proportion. Luckily, there is no argument from him or I as to why this often happens. We have both come to the conclusion over the years that it is due to our age gap of 20 years, but not always. One of several examples I can give you from previous conflicting conversations is the way each of us words our thoughts. I believe the way my age group expresses out thoughts today can come across with an urgency, where as maybe my husbands' can sometimes be more patient at getting to the point. In the moment with neither sides realizing that being more accepting of this characteristic in one another may save a lot of future grief, both parties continue on to prove their points with the other not quite getting it. I speak from personal experience, this can quickly cause tension later escalating into something so far from its origin you can forget what it was originally about in the first place. Now I am sure there are many ways to eventually come to a resolution in a situation like this, but in our case the best way is usually to walk away and later revisit the conversation when we have had time to think over each others' points. That way, we are able to better translate the way the other can understand. When my co workers and I have an argument at work we have a policy on how to approach and resolve the issue. If it can't be resolved between the two staff members, the supervisor tries to step in and mediate the conversation. When that doesn't work human resources becomes involved and that is not
