Gummies in Water
Science 804 Kyshon Tate Mr. White September 20, 2012 Science Lab

Purpose: What happens to a gummy candy when it is put in water overnight?
Hypothesis: I think the gummy candy will come out of the water soggy and soft when it is put in water overnight.
Experiment:
Materials: * One gummy candy * 100 mL beaker * Ruler * Triple-Bean Balance
Procedure:
1. Gather all the materials for the lab. 2. Measure the length, height, and width of your gummy to the nearest tenth of the centimeter. Record the data in the data table. 3. Calculate the volume by multiplying the length, width, and height. Round to the nearest hundredth. 4. Use the triple-bean balance to measure the mass of your gummy. Record the data in the data table. 5. Calculate the density of the gummy to the nearest hundredth. Use the equation below:
Density = mass/volume 6. Label the beaker with your group members names 7. Pour 100 mL of water in the beaker and then place the gummy in the water. 8. Place the beaker with the gummy in a place designated by your teacher. 9. Carefully remove your gummy from the water. 10. Repeat steps 2 through 5 with the gummy and record your data in the data table.

Conclusion: In this lab I was asked the question “What happens to a gummy candy when it is put in water for a long period of time?” My hypothesis was I think the gummy candy will come out of the water soggy and soft when it is put in water overnight. After the one night of the gummy bear sitting in the water the results didn’t support my hypothesis. I say this because today when I checked the gummy bear in science class it
