Affirmative Alabama allows concealed carry permits (CCP); specifically it is a shall-issue state. Shall-issue is a jurisdiction that requires a license to carry a concealed handgun, but where the applicant only has to meet determinate criteria that have been laid out in the law. Therefore, the granting authority has no discretion in awarding the license, and there is no requirement of the applicant to demonstrate good cause. Alabama should abolish shall-issue concealed carry permits. There are three main advantages of abolishing the issue, the reduction of crime, less suicides, and fewer homicides.
An advantage of abolishing shall-issue concealed carry permits would be the reduction of crime rates. Two researchers at the Department of Economics, College of William and Mary found:
Guns make crime easier to commit. Armed criminals are more easily able to secure victim cooperation. Guns also make it easier to commit larger scale crimes, such as bank robbery. More guns, therefore, can increase the number of criminals and encourage current criminals to be more active. Also, more guns in homes can encourage burglary, since guns are valuable loot.
Ian Ayres and John Donohue, Law graduates from Stanford and Yale, say:
“While certain facially plausible statistical models appear to generate this conclusion, more refined analyses of more recent state and county data undermine the more guns, less crime hypothesis. The most robust finding on the state data is that certain property crimes rise with passage of shall- issue laws… Estimating more statistically preferred disaggregated models on more complete county data, we show that in most states shall- issue laws have been associated with more crime and that the apparent stimulus to crime tends to be especially strong for those states that adopted in the last decade.
Concealed carry permits increase crime by allowing an escalation in violence.
Another advantage would be the number of people that wouldn’t commit suicide. The American Journal of Public Health states:
Suicide is a serious public health concern that is responsible for almost 1 million deaths each year worldwide. It is commonly an impulsive act by a vulnerable individual. The impulsivity of suicide provides opportunities to reduce the risk of suicide by restricting access to lethal means. In the United States, firearms, particularly handguns, are the most common means of suicide. Despite strong empirical evidence that restriction of access to firearms reduces suicides, access to firearms in the United States is generally subject to few restrictions… In a survey of 36 wealthy nations, the United States was unique in having the highest overall firearm mortality rate and the highest proportion of suicides by firearms. Guns are used for more suicides in the United States each year than for homicides (17,352 vs. 12,632). There is strong evidence that access to firearms, whether from household availability or a new purchase, is associated with increased risk of suicide. The risk of suicide by guns is far higher in states with high rates of gun ownership than in those with low ownership rates. The increased risk of suicide applies not only to the gun owner but also to others living in a household with guns. One study found that adults who have recently purchased a handgun are at increased risk of suicide by gun within a week of gun purchase, with the increase in risk persisting for at least six years. That study and others suggest that some gun purchases are made specifically with the intent of suicide. Gun availability in the household is associated with risks and benefits. The risks include accidental or intentional injury to one's self or family members, whereas the benefits include protection against home intruders and deterrence of crime. A recent review of the scientific literature concluded that in contemporary American society, the health risk of having a gun in the household outweighs the benefits, with compelling
There has been a discussion about the right to carry a concealed weapon on Texas campuses. For one to carry a concealed weapon with them the law that one must have a permit, which in this case it can be similar to, that issued for gun license or it can be of a different nature requires it. Concealed weapons are weapons, especially handguns, which are kept hidden on one's person, or under one's control. (US LEGAL) Without a permit, it is considered a violation of the laws and one can be charged on…
Handgun Violence Prevention Act of 1993 (Brady Act) puts requirements on Federal Licensed Dealers. There are disadvantages to carry a concealed weapon. There needs to be new stipulations implemented for the purchase of concealed firearms. Recent events that have occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut and with an increase in gun violence, stricter concealed firearms laws need to be implemented. The Bill of Rights and the Second Amendment to the Constitution and gun laws have been…
3-24-13 Concealed weapons has its pros and cons. I completely agree with having a concealed weapon in certain situations. But many people in this world have certain disabilities, which cause them to do foolish things with concealed weapons. I admit though, that weapons can be used for protection. Based on the rights of protection most citizens believe that it is ok carry conceal weapons in any environment. All the allegations about crimes and weapons, are crazy in most people opinion. Certain…

It is required to have a permit which has been approve by the state. Applicants must be at least 21 years old and not have…
Rhetorical Analysis Paper In the essay we read, entitled “Why Our Campuses Are Safer Without Concealed Handguns”, we see the author use five main points, as well as using appeals to Ethos Logos and Pathos to help reinforce his view on the topic. The five main reasons that the author feels that college campuses are safer without concealed handguns are introduced to us in the opening of the article, listed as bullet points. The author then goes on to break the article into these separate sections…
The debate on whether to have concealed carry in America has been going on for years. On one side, there is the National Rifle Association who strongly believes that it is there right to carry guns and use them for hunting and self-defense. On yet another side, there are the people who strongly believe that guns are extremely dangerous. Both of these sides have very good arguments. Just I guess it depends on whoever fights the hardest to win. In the Constitutions Second Amendment it is our right…

Conceal Carry in Illinois Illinois is the only state that does not allow conceals carry. Having concealed carry will help out the law abiding citizens. I also think that by having concealed carry it will help out the police in the state and also city of Chicago. 2nd Amendment is the right to bear arms and I believe that every citizen in Illinois should be able to do that. Illinois should allow their citizens the right to bear arms and allow conceal carry. Reasons to allow conceal carry in Illinois…
on gun control.” “Duke Aiona, (R) is anti-gun control, however, his stand is that no private citizen should be allowed to carry a concealed firearm. He stated, “As a former State judge, I understand the Second Amendment, which allows for the ownership of firearms.” David Ige, our current Governor, supports background checks, but, opposes concealed carry.” On the other hand, Rep. Colleen Hanabusa is the U.S. Representative for Hawaii’s 1st Congressional District. According to Robert…
According to the U.S. Justice Department, seventy-eight percent of all law enforcement officers utilize hand guns (Welford 2005). From 1977 to 1996, the United States Firearm Industry produced 39,024,786 hand guns, but another 50 million rifles and shotguns here made during the same period. Not only is it necessary for our armed forces and police officers to use weapons for their daily lives, but it is also a huge source of income for the U.S. (Fernandez 2002). When James Madison proposed the Bill…
