COMPUTER COMPONENTS PROJECT –AUNT MAVIS’ PERSONAL COMPUTER
Date Due: 3.00 pm, Monday, 15 October 2012
Your Aunt Mavis has decided to return to university and she thinks that a computer would be useful to help with her assignments and note taking. However, she does not know a lot about computers and has written a letter to you for advice about what to buy.

Dear Niece / Nephew,
I write this in the great hope that you can help me. As you may know, I have decided to return to university next semester to study Marketing and I think that I will need a computer to type my assignments and for researching. I’m sure that there are other uses that I could put the computer to, but I don’t know of any.
My old school friend, Shelley, has offered to sell me her old computer, which is about 8 years old.
She said that I would have to buy the software for it, but I don’t understand why she just can’t give me the software. I don’t even know what she means by software! Should I buy this? Your cousin Michael doesn’t think so – he says that it won’t be powerful enough – but do I need lots of power?
As you can tell from this letter, I’m in a fix. I don’t know what to buy and I’m scared of being sold the wrong thing by a shop assistant. I do know that you are studying computers and I hope that you can set me right by explaining what the terms mean in some of the advertisements that I see in the newspapers and what you think that I will need.
Thank you, dear niece/nephew. I wait with eager anticipation for your reply. Give my love to your family.
Regards and many thanks,
Your Aunt Mavis
