Rome Part 2 Essay

The problems that brought down the Roman Empire and the United States are similar in that they both had problems in the economy with inflation, in social classes in that the rich were getting richer and the poor were getting poorer, and both government systems failing. However, they are different in that soldiers weren’t loyal to Rome, while soldiers are loyal to the US, and that Rome suffered many attacks and invasions from barbarians, while the US doesn’t, and that power in Rome was just seen as a way to get rich, while it is actually seen as an honorable position in the US. The US and Rome are similar in that both are struggling or struggled with inflation. This is a similarity because both have issues with the decreased value of money, making it harder for the poor to buy things because their money is worth less. For example, gas cost less 3 years ago then it does now. Also, in Rome when inflation hit, they had to pay double for bread (as an example) than they did before. The US and Rome differ in that soldiers weren’t loyal to Rome, while soldiers are still loyal to the US. This is a difference because soldiers of Rome did not want to die for Rome, but soldiers in the US continuously risk their lives for their country. An example of this is that Rome had to hire mercenaries to fight for them, but they weren’t willing to die for Rome because then they wouldn’t be paid. However, many people enlist for the US Army every day, showing loyalty to the US.
The US and Rome are similar in that they both have or had a failing government. This is a similarity because those who run the country are failing and the countries failed or are failing in turn.
