Introduction
Public administrators use many communication genres to reach their audiences. These genres range from business cards to governmental proposals. Each one has its own purpose. Each one has its own way of getting information to the audience quickly and efficiently. Each one has been affected by technology. Each has its own discourse conventions associated with it. Furthermore, policy handbooks and public policy reports have advanced with the development of technology. They can now be viewed online by anyone wishing to know about policies, rules, and regulations. The public can view most of these documents by way of the Internet, and agencies can send inter-agency memos and reports electronically.
Discourse Conventions
The discourse convention of the business card employs a specific vocabulary that the reader indentifies with, such as an agency, or organization. The resume displays specific key words to alert the reader of the expertise of the candidate. The policy memorandum use discourse conventions directed at an expert audience. When an author writes a policy memorandum, it is expected that his/her audience will understand it (Allison & Williams, 2008). On the other hand, displaying an argumentative structure, the public policy report investigates problems or makes recommendations for action. The public policy handbook expresses discourse conventions with specific vocabulary, such as rules and laws, and explains details regarding implementation that are beneficial to the public to avoid violation of such laws and rules.
Method of Distribution
