SHC 31: Communication
Learning Outcome 1 Assessment Criteria 1.1, 1.2.
Communication is an act by which one person gives to or receives person information about a personal need, desire, opinion, knowledge and feelings. There are different ways humans communicate verbal and non- verbal communication. Verbal communication helps us express our thoughts through speaking and listening to each other as individuals. Non- verbal communication involves person express themselves with the use of words as will they use gestures example like a yawn can sign of tiredness or boredom and a person body language to convey how they might be feeling example of body language crossed arms can convey a person being defensive.
It is important to able to communicate effectively in nursery setting. Communication is an essential tool as a nursery practitioner as I will use it to meet the needs of children. It is a basic requirement of my job role to communicate with children and their families, other members of staff on a daily basis. Communicating with other staff members allows effective team working and continuity of care. It also helps me ensure any health and safety issues are recognised and reported. As working part of team you will need able relay any information regarding a child to anyone of your team members. For example if a child is on medication you will need have a written record for everyone team member to able to check be they administer another dose to the child to prevent an over dose.
